Yield‐Line Analysis by Linear Programming

Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 114, Issue 6

Abstract

A unified approach for yield-line analysis (YLA) of slabs by using linear programming (LP) technique is developed and applied to a few problems for which solutions are available in the literature. The kinematic approach is used in the formulation of LP problem. The method is simple and straightforward to use and does not require the investigation of various yield-line patterns as long as the actual yield-line patterns can be described by the descretization lines. This is another example of the solution of problems of engineering plasticity by mathematical programming.
