Optimum Reinforcement in Spandrel Supported Slabs

Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 114, Issue 10

Abstract

In an earlier paper, the writers discussed the optimization of the reinforcement in a rectangular slab panel with certain restricted edge conditions. In this paper, the optimization has been extended to any arbitrary edge conditions. The optimization of the reinforcement in the slab‐spandrel system of a corner panel has also been developed. Empirical expressions for the optimum orthotropy ratios for the slab panel alone, as well as for the slab‐spandrel system, based on extensive computer analysis, are presented.
