Nonlinear Analysis of Sheathed Wood Diaphragms

Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 110, Issue 9

Abstract

A finite element model for predicting the quasi‐static load‐deflection behavior of diaphragms is presented. A fastener compliance element derived from nonlinear nail load‐slip properties is deployed. The model is formulated for the general case and does not impose restrictions on sheathing arrangements, load application, and geometry of distorted diaphragms. The method is verified using experimental tests where good agreements have been obtained.
