Analysis of Laterally Loaded Wall‐Frame Structures

Abstract
In the established method of analysis of wall-frame structures based on the continuum approach, the shear in the frame element is always zero at the base as a result of the boundary conditions used, irrespective of the relative stiffness of the two components. An extension to this analysis is presented to allow the shearing deformations of both walls and frames at ground level to be included, and allow an assessment to be made of the shears carried by the frames. Curves are presented to show how the magnitudes of the main structural actions are influenced by the relative bending and shearing stiffness ratios.
