Abstract
A mathematical model is developed to determine the optimal spacing of shallow tube wells and the optimal length of field channel lining to minimize the total cost. The model takes into account the monthly varying crop water requirements. The optimization model is also applied to a set of basic data pertaining to North Bihar, India.
