Numerical Model of Flow in Ice-Covered Channel
Publication: Journal of Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract
A two-dimensional numerical model for a dune-bed channel is extended to describe the flow structure in a channel with a bed of prescribed geometry and roughness, and a free-floating ice cover of known roughness. The model involves solution of the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the k -ω turbulence model, which accounts for wall roughness. It is validated against recent experiments in channels with simulated ice covers of varying roughness, and is applied to estimate the effect of an ice cover on the flow in a dune-bed channel.
