Probabilistic Study on Failure of Large Dams

Publication: Journal of Geotechnical Engineering
Volume 109, Issue 11

Abstract

The analysis of dam failures allows considerations about their safety and can influence new design and inspection criteria. Historical data about dam failures are used to relate failure rate to age or decade of construction. These results are used to forecast the number of expected failures during 1980/90 and the risk of failure for a dam built during the eighties.
