Buckling Behavior of Elastic Circular Arches

Publication: Journal of Engineering Mechanics
Volume 117, Issue 11

Abstract

The research reported herein is concerned with the finite deformations and snap‐through buckling behavior of slender symmetrical uniform and nonuniform elastic circular arches with clamped end supports at large deflection under a vertical downward concentrated load at the crown. Values of height‐to‐span ratios equal to 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 for each value of the depth of the section at support to the depth of the section at crown equal to 1.0,1.5, and 2.0 are considered. Comparison between the results obtained and the results calculated by others is carried out.
