Editor’s Note

Publication: Journal of Environmental Engineering
Volume 132, Issue 12
My two-year term as editor of JEE comes to a close with this issue. Serving in this position over the last two years has been a rewarding experience for me. The contributions of several individuals have been critical for successful journal operation. The dedication of the ASCE staff, particularly Jackie Perry, to our journal was exceptional. In addition, Rita Butz has been an outstanding administrative assistant for JEE and worked diligently with the associate editors during the manuscript review process.
During my time as editor, JEE received and reviewed more than 500 manuscripts from authors around the world. In 2004, 118 papers and notes were published in JEE whereas in 2005, more than 200 were published. This paper increase is attributable to the number of pages allocated to the JEE by ASCE. The annual page budget for 2004 of 1,300 was increased to 1,900 for 2005 and beyond. The ASCE publications staff recommended this modification because the time from manuscript submission to publication for our journal was longer than desired. This enhanced page allocation has resulted in a decrease in the time to publication in 2005.
The success of the journal is primarily because of the dedication and talent of the editorial board. I would like to recognize and thank the associate editors with whom I have worked over the last two years: Pedro Alvarez, Robin Autenreith, Morton Barlaz, Stuart Batterman, Alok Bhandari, Chip Blatchley, Gail Brion, Joel Burken, Mark Cal, Leonard Casson, Erik Christensen, Teresa Culver, Bruce DeVantier, Dionysios Dionysiou, Joseph Flora, Keri Hornbuckle, Peter Jaffee, Kim Jones, Karl Linden, Victor Magar, Benito Marinas, Daniel Noguera, Paige Novak, Daniel Oerther, Alan Rabideau, Danny Reible, Steve Safferman, John Sansalone, James Smith, George Sorial, Tom Speth, Laura Steinberg, Joo Hwa Tay, Radisav Vidic, Yi-Tin Wang, Linda Weaver, and Charles Worth. In addition, I appreciate the advice and guidance given to me by past JEE editors Mark Rood and Bob Arnold.
I would like to welcome our new JEE editor, Ray Ferrara. Ray has served as a JEE associate editor for the past five years. Good luck to Ray in his new position. I am confident that I leave the Journal in good hands.
