Advancing the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals through Publishing

ASCE is a signatory of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Publishers Compact. The participating organizations strive to develop sustainable practices and act as champions, by publishing books and journals that will help inform, develop, and inspire action.

ASCE's civil engineering research supports the following Sustainable Development Goals. Click on the icons below to see a curated selection of highly relevant content from the ASCE Library.

UN SDG Goal 5: Gender Equality
ASCE has long fostered the advancement of women in civil engineering with their first women member in 1927. However, women only account for about 15% of the engineers in the United States, so it is vital to identify obstacles and ways to improve recruitment.

UN SDG Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
Access to clean and safe water is critical to public health and economic prosperity. Civil engineering research can help address our aging water infrastructure and assist utilities in keeping pace with the regulatory requirements needed for compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.

In an effort to broaden the discovery and understanding of sustainable development goal and climate change research, ASCE sponsors both a Sustainable Development Goals Showcase and Climate Change Knowledge Cooperative (CCKC). The videos below also provide insight on climate change initiatives in the civil engineering space. Research made simple.
