The delicate balance of our terrestrial ecosystems is facing unprecedented challenges due to the combined impacts of urbanization and climate change. As these challenges intensify, civil engineers will be tasked with developing innovative strategies to preserve and restore these vital systems. Interdisciplinary research is more important than ever for finding sustainable, nature-based solutions to combat desertification, reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss.
