Abstract
We suggest the criteria and steps on selecting scenario earthquakes for important engineering structures in this paper, the main ideas are that the scenario earthquake should be determined by considering two main factors at least, i.e., seismic environment (represented by Seismic Hazard Analysis normally) and structural dynamic property (represented by structural inherent period). The results show that it is necessary to estimate the scenario earthquake carefully by combining the structural properties with seismic environment for key engineering structures especially.
