Special Collection on Numerical Modeling of Geosystems Under Extreme Events and Geohazard Mitigations

With increasing extreme events, such as hurricanes, tsunamis, tornados, flooding, landslides, and earthquakes in recent years, civil infrastructures are subjected to increasingly stressed environments. Consequently, civil engineers are more than ever facing the challenges of designing, constructing, and maintaining sustainable and resilient infrastructures. Such challenges place unprecedented demands on better understanding of constitutive behaviors of geo-materials and performance of various geosystems under severe weather and geo-hazards. Sustainable designs of geosystems also demand advanced technologies and numerical modeling to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of various mitigation approaches. This special collection provides a platform for sharing the state-of-the-art research outcomes and state-of-the-practice case studies on advanced technologies and numerical modeling of geosystems in modern geotechnical engineering. All papers published in this collection have undergone standard yet rigorous peer review and their origins including four continents are regarded to have wide representativeness. Readers are urged to check back frequently as additional papers for the collection are added as they are accepted and published online.
